Precautionary COVID-19 Information

This afternoon a member of support staff has tested positive for COVID-19.

The member of support staff works with Post 16 students and has always followed the government guidance by maintaining a social distance from all staff and students. This afternoon the school has worked with Public Health England, the Local Authority and Department for Education and has been advised that there is no reason for any member of staff or student to self-isolate.

The school will continue to remain open for all students.

The school has been working closely with Public Health England and Wiltshire Council to ensure high standards of hygiene are maintained and all the necessary measures are in place.

Paul Skipp, Headteacher at John of Gaunt School, said: "We have written to all parents and carers to explain the situation. Whilst this is something we wished to avoid, we have planned and prepared for this eventuality. I am really grateful to parents for their understanding and continued support. The safety of everyone within our school community is the most important thing and we will continue to work with Wiltshire Council and Public Health England. There is no evidence to suggest that this is related to our previous case in Year 10 last week and we now look forward to welcoming all students back into school after the weekend."

Kate Blackburn, Director of Public Health for Wiltshire, said: "This precautionary action is very important so we can keep the risk of any transmission within the school community as low as possible. We will continue to support the school so that their high standard of COVID-19 measures are maintained.

"We ask that people regularly wash hands, maintain social distancing and wear face coverings where appropriate – this is the best way to keep you and everyone safe as much as possible."
