Dear all

I hope you have all been able to have a good week. On Monday it was lovely to welcome back our Year 10 students who had to isolate the week before. We are so pleased they are safe and well and it was wonderful to see on Monday they had a 99% attendance! This has certainly been a long yet rewarding half term. We have been so pleased to see our young people settle back into lessons and we are pleased that our plans to ensure all children catch up on the work they missed in lockdown are now well underway. As the year progresses we will be undertaking a whole range of catch up activities to ensure that no child is impacted due to the pandemic.

This week our Year 7 and Post 16 parents had their first experience of a virtual parents evening. I was glad to see that the School Cloud servers were in good working order. I know there were a couple of issues with connection speeds but in general this seemed to be a positive experience for parents. If there was anything specific that you weren’t able to find out, please feel free to email the teacher at an stage.

Next term we welcome back Active Trowbridge, who will be running sports at break time and lunch time. After half term we will be allowing football and other activities to take place during these times. We have looked in detail at the guidance and taken advice and we are satisfied that these activities can take place, in the year group zones, outside. I also believe this is important for our young people to relive stress and gain valuable exercise.

This week has also seen our first set of practical GCSE examinations, I have to say I have been blown away by the standard of our Musical performances. There were some exceptional pieces and I am sure the examiner will be impressed when we send away our recordings. Next week in Expressive Arts faculty we are really looking forward to the first virtual Oscars! The link will be released next Tuesday ready for the first viewing!

As this is the last full week of term, this will be the last newsletter before we break up. As always I hope you are able to have a relaxing weekend and also, an enjoyable half term.

The Big Anti-Bullying Assembly 2020

This week Year 7 students had the opportunity to watch some of The Big Anti-Bullying Assembly. Created by the Diana Award Charity and featuring several celebrities the assembly gave the students a chance to reflect on what bullying means and the impact it can have. It encouraged students to consider their support network and the importance of sharing if they or someone they know are being bullied.  For anyone wanting to watch the assembly it is available on YouTube at the following link Anti-bullying Assembly

Next Term Year 7 will be doing more work on Anti-Bullying and will encouraged to put up their hands and make the pledge to put an end to bullying.
