Dear all,

As you are aware, this week is mental health awareness week. It has been really encouraging to hear our Tutors talk about this and share resources in Tutor time. In addition our PSHE lessons this week have been dedicated to mental health and our Tutors are now preparing for next week’s individual Tutor sessions on Friday. We are so aware of supporting our students' mental health and we will continue doing all we can.

Once again, we have continued to be impressed by both the attendance and engagement of our young people in lessons this week. We know this has been a very different and challenging term for them and hope they are planning on being away from their screens over half term! We know over half term we are likely to hear more concrete news about schools returning. We will of course continue to keep you updated through our regular parent update letters. Let’s hope we can have more students back sooner rather than later!

Keep safe and well everyone,

Paul Skipp

Headteacher

Year 7 Spotlight!

The Year 7 spotlight falls on Miss Regan’s wonderful tutor group 7B, this week.

Mrs Scott wanted to reiterate that as a group they have been so enthusiastic about their leaning in both RE and PSHE; and this enthusiasm to learning has transferred seamlessly from the classroom to online. Mr Powell too, wanted to share that 7B have been doing brilliantly in Geography. Great attendance to lessons, and really great interest.

Special mentions from Geography also go to Summer and to Monty, who gives everything a go and always has a smile on his face.

Whilst Erin, Imogen and Gracie have been impressing with their incredible bookshelf designs; Mr Heard felt Lucas deserved some recognition for consistently submitting his work.

Meanwhile, the whole group have been amazing Miss Phillips with their knowledge on Space, and with the extra facts they are finding out themselves to share!

Several teachers also highlighted Josh W as a stand out member of the group, for settling in to our school community so well in these challenging circumstances and for sharing some wonderful ideas in lessons. Well done Josh!

A massive congratulations to all of 7B for their continued engagement and enthusiasm.

Mrs Addison, Miss Wood, Mrs Stewart and Miss Regan.

The Show Must Go On!

Some of the joys of studying the Expressive Arts subjects is getting to experience the arts in many live contexts whether that be visiting an art gallery, the theatre or a concert venue. Sadly, some of the most loved theatres and concert halls have not opened since they closed on 23rd March 2020. The Expressive Arts Faculty usually offer numerous trips, workshops, residentials, concerts and shows each year, and sadly like so many other things these have been unable to go ahead. So, the Expressive Arts Faculty thought we would share some virtual experiences with you so that you can continue to enjoy the arts from the comfort of your own home.

Art

Grayson Perry

Grayson Perry did his "Art Club" tv series last lockdown, where the public sent him work each week based on a theme that he set. He selected work each week and put them into an exhibition in Manchester Art Gallery. They were about to open the exhibition to the public when lockdown 2 hit. So they have put Curator’s Tour: Grayson Art Club on YouTube for you to enjoy at home.

Musicals the Greatest Show

BBC Radio 2 and BBC One are raising the curtain with a very special show - direct from the West End - featuring a glittering cast of UK and international stars performing songs from the musicals.

This promises to be a magical evening that delivers an experience we’ve all been missing for far too long – a night at the theatre! Hosted on radio and television by Sheridan Smith... it puts the songs, the shows, and the stars back on stage at the world-famous London Palladium.

Watch the performance on BBC One on 7th February.

Photography

Wildlife Photograph of the Year at The Natural History Museum

View the Wildlife Photographer of the Year images from the current and previous years’ competitions. These images were awarded for their artistic composition, technical innovation and truthful interpretation of the natural world.

We hope you enjoy some of our suggestions. We can’t wait for the day when we can resume our usual busy and enjoyable schedule with our students!

With best wishes,
