NEWSLETTER 19

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are so delighted that we are able to welcome students back into school from Monday 8th March. As you will be aware from the letters that we have sent out, we are currently finalising our plans to ensure all students are offered a COVID-19 Lateral Flow test before they return. Early next week we will be sharing all our plans in detail.

In addition to the wonderful news about students returning we have now received further information about how exam grades will be calculated this summer. Whilst I have shared initial information through letters to parents, more detailed information to parents and students will be on its way over the next few weeks.

This week it has been wonderful to sign over 200 certificates to students. It has been so pleasing to see so many students receive positive points for the work they are completing at home. Next week our remote live lessons continue from Monday through to Thursday but please remember on Friday 5th March, all lessons will be put onto class charts to download. This will enable all our staff to return to school for the day to prepare their classrooms and lessons for the return of students the following week.

The forecast this weekend certainly looks nice and sunny, let’s hope it really is!

Keep safe and well everyone,

Paul Skipp

Headteacher

Year 7 Silver Award

Congratulations to Ben Gregory and Charlotte Watts, the first Y7s to get a Silver certificate this year. There are a few other students close behind so we hope to be announcing more next week.

So many students are working so hard in such difficult circumstances that it is lovely to see the efforts being rewarded by staff. Another 14 students have also reached Bronze in recent weeks:

We have been asked recently about claiming rewards. As we will soon be returning to school please wait until we are back before you claim (or keep saving for those bigger rewards) unless of course you wish to use your points to make a donation to the charity MIND as one generous Y7 student did this week.

Lego League Challenge

This year we are taking part in the 'Lego League Challenge' where we will design, build and program a robot to carry out a series of challenges. Every year Lego League releases a new challenge based on a real-world, scientific theme and this year's challenge is to motivate people to become more active.

We are looking to form a team of ten very enthusiastic year 10 students to carry this out. Please do not be put off if you do not know how to code, there are lots of aspects of this challenge that you can get involved with that are not coding, such as designing the robot, writing the speeches and helping out with the innovation project.

If you are interested, please send in a short letter explaining why you would like to be involved in this challenge. Letters should be sent to jnelson@jogschool.org by Monday 15th February.

Hello Parents & Carers of KS3 students,

We understand that many students will be experiencing a mixture of emotions after the recent announcement about returning to school. Please find attached a 'How to prepare for the return to school' document which will hopefully provide your child some guidance, advice and useful information about how to prepare for this. This document has also been shared with students via Class Charts this morning.

Remember if you have any particular questions or worries then do email your child's tutor as the first point of contact.
