Dear all,

I hope you are all well?

This week our Year 11 have been working really hard in their mocks exams. We have been really impressed with their perseverance and determination in this challenging year, but I know many of this cohort are going to go on and be extremely successful. Today you will also be aware we have given students their next batch of Lateral Flow Tests to use.

As you may know if you have been watching our JOG School facebook page, we are getting a school dog! Obie is currently 8 weeks old and after his next set of injections will start to come to school. You may be aware that there is a lot of research to show the benefits of school dogs, and we look forward to having him with us soon.

Next week there will be more information sent out to Year 11 and Post 16 students regarding their Teacher Assessed Grades. Information regarding which evidence is going to be used in which subject will be released next week along with further information about grade submission. Also, next week, we will aim at releasing the final information about Activities Week. This will then provide you with an opportunity to look at all the activities and trips on offer and make selections with your child.

As Monday is a bank holiday, we look forward to seeing the students again on Tuesday. Enjoy your long weekend.

Kind regards,

Paul Skipp

Headteacher

STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

KS3 Lilly - resilience in athletics
KS4 Luke - efforts in Sport Science
KS5 Sam - enthusiasm in sports injuries

Huge well done to all 3 students, it is great to be able to reward efforts in PE ??

IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE

On Friday 21st May there will be an additional Inset day. This means the school will be closed to children. This day is to allow for teachers to moderate and standardise all the Year 11 and Post 16 evidence that is being put forward for their grade submission. We wholeheartedly apologise for the inconvenience, however given the exceptional circumstances and huge task to submit accurate grades for our students we hope you understand.

Every week you will find a new reading recommendation. It will be a mix of new and old books and all recommendations are available in your school library.

Would you like to recommend your favourite book? Pop in to see Mrs Bruton!

This ingenious frame story is made up of ten short stories which take place on a walk home from school. Without adults on the walk, we get to see each child’s personality shine and it feels intimate as though the stories are being relayed directly to the reader. Stories stand-alone but also have clever interconnections.

Characters are well-developed and display motivations that are compelling and convincing throughout. It provides a real snapshot into the lives and concerns of others. There is an impressive array of themes explored bullying, homophobia and bereavement to name but three. All are broached with a deft, lightness of touch and considerable warmth and all help to promote understanding and empathy in impressive ways. Alongside each of the stories we read, there are also numerous story starts to intrigue and capture the imaginations of readers leaving them thinking about the characters. An engaging, funny and totally unique read!

Look Both Ways has been shortlisted for this year’s Carnegie Medal.

Happy Reading!

Mrs Bruton

New term and a new assessment in PE. This term is all about Theory Me, students will get an insight into the theory behind the practical and gain an insight into the content we would cover in Sport Science.

Each class from year 7,8,9 have sat an entry test in their first lesson this week and then will gain information over the rest of this term and will then sit an exit exam. Information for revision can be found in the knowledge organiser and we will also be using our social media platforms for some interactive questions.

We look forward to seeing how much the students can learn over the next 6 weeks!
