NEWSLETTER 9 - 19 November 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have all had a good week. This week I have spent a lot of time in lessons which has been a real privilege, amongst a range of highlights was seeing a group of Year 8 scientists dissect a mackerel and so eloquently be able to share all the learning around its vital organs. The end of the week has finished with our non-uniform day to support children in need, along with a number of fun activities. Thank you for all your donations.

In addition, we also had a visit from an outreach officer today from Cambridge University, she talked with a range of our Year 11 and Post 16 students about applying to top academic universities.

As you are aware our extra COVID precautions are continuing and will be in place up until the end of November. We will then re-assess the situation in partnership with Public Health. As per usual, I hope you are all able to have a wonderful weekend.

As always, I hope you are able to enjoy a relaxing weekend.

This week, Year 9 scientists carried out a fish dissection! Firstly, they had to remove the gills (this is where the diffusion of oxygen takes place)... and their final challenge was to remove the swim bladder!

This is sometimes difficult, so the students did really well when they managed to remove it.

This week our outdoor learning groups have been planting sapling trees that have been provided by The Woodland Trust thanks to their free trees for schools initiative. The students have planted trees in copse formations including silver birch, rowan and wild cherry.

We are also awaiting a delivery of fruit trees, from the Tree Council, that will create an orchard close to our goats to provide a sweet treat for them in the summer and Autumn!

What a great experience for our Y8’s!

You would not have known this was their first match ever - they did such a great job and got better with each game. I am really proud of each & every one of you.

Thank you to those who stepped in late and to Charlie Batt for her help.

Players of the Match: Brooke & Maisie.

Last term some of our wonderful year 9’s took part in a Lantern making workshop. Fun was had by all.

Please come along to the parade on the 27th November and show support for our talented students.

Last week year 10 took part in an all day painting workshop run by local artist, April Barlow.

The workshop was aimed at building confidence and knowledge of different painting techniques for the students' coursework.

April commented on how great the students were during the day, they did the school proud.

Well done year 10.
