Mrs Bruton: Learning Resources Manager
My name is Mrs Bruton and I work in our beautiful library. I love reading and I love finding just the right books for our students. I strive to make the library completely inclusive; everyone is welcome whether they are beginners or big readers. I try to make the library a fun place and I like making colourful displays. I am also very fond of dressing up and find any excuse to wear face paint!
Our library is a safe and welcoming place. We moved to our new location in 2019 and we are very proud of our new library space. It is open to all students before and after school as well as during break and lunchtime. Students can use the library to complete and/or print homework, use IT facilities for schoolwork, return and issue books for the day ahead or simply read! The library does get very busy during break and lunchtime and computers are on a first come, first served basis.
During lesson time, the library is a learning space with timetabled lessons.
Once a fortnight, Year 7 and Year 8 enjoy timetabled library lessons. In these lessons, the students follow the Accelerated Reader programme. Accelerated Reader (AR) is a powerful tool for monitoring and managing independent reading practice. With AR, the school can create a reading programme to meet the needs of every student.
Using information generated by the software in the form of a Star Test, teachers and our school librarian can help students select books that are difficult enough to keep them challenged, but not too difficult to cause frustration.
