Applying for 6th Form

APPLYING FOR SIXTH FORM

Students will be studying 3 A-levels which will only consist of external assessment at the end of Year 13. The only subjects where we plan to offer AS qualifications are Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. An AS is now a stand-alone qualification that equates to 40% of an A level in terms of UCAS points. We have chosen to continue with this approach in these subjects to support students with the step up from GCSE to A level.

Some students will take a combination of A-levels and BTECs/Vocational. Again, students will study courses that are the equivalent of 3 courses. For example, some students might take the BTEC Health and Social Care (double, which is equivalent to 2 A-levels) and A level Psychology; this would make a total of 3 academic courses as their core learning package.

All students will also make a choice from our Personal Enhanced Offer. Our offer will include the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Further Maths, Sports Leader and Work Experience. For students who achieve 8 or more grade 7s or above at GCSE, studying a fourth A level will be considered.

Current John of Gaunt students wanting to apply to the sixth form will be sent a link via their school email address following the Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 9th November.

EXTERNAL STUDENTS ONLY will need to apply via this link  https://forms.office.com/r/5Jauh9GFKK

Students should select 3 subjects and a reserve, and one option from the Personal Enhanced Offer. This will help us to cater for as many needs as possible. Please do make sure the subjects are in preferential order. Please submit your choices by Friday 15th December. Late applications will be considered, but curriculum choices may be affected.

Our column structure changes every year to reflect student applications.

Students entering the Sixth Form without a GCSE grade 4 or above in English and Maths will have to re-sit the course.

If you have any queries, please do get in touch with the Sixth Form office on 01225 762637 ext 205 or email sixthform@jogschool.org
